Compressing/lowering quality of videos

Post by Eliot »

Can anyone point me in the right direction for some program that can either change the format of my videos to be lesser quality, shrink them down, or something so that I can post them on youtube?

I have a pretty nice digital camera and although the videos are very nice, even a 5 min video is coming in at about 250mb which is too big for me to share with people on youtube...

Any suggestions are appreciated as I'm a complete video noob... :D

A fairly inexpensive but great program for what you need is Quicktime Pro. With that program you can export your video to a 320x240 video file. I highly recommend setting your video compression to "sorenson 3" if youtube allows it. With sorenson 3 you will find your videos have extrememely small files sizes while maintaining their original video quality.

I hope that helps.

http://www.doom9.org/

has a whole bunch of info.

www.virtualdub.org -- that is a freeware program that will compress for you. Don't think its really the easiest thing to use, but it does work and it is free.

Thanks guys! I think I'll try the QuickTime pro just for ease of use and support reasons... and if it works it'll be worth $30 for me. Anyways.... thanks!!! I'll let you guys know if it works out.

I just bought Fraps last night, and was looking at some options myself, but I do have some available to me already, such as Adobe Premier and another program called WinProducer.

If you have adobe premeire cs3, theres an export preset option specifically for youtube that you can use.
